Green Tea: Caffeine, Preparation and Iced Tea Without Sugar

May 24, 2026Teaballs

Green tea is a classic: fresh, grassy in flavour and with natural caffeine. Here you will find out how much caffeine green tea contains, how to prepare it and how to enjoy it with TEABALLS, hot or cold, without added sugar.

Green Tea in Brief

Green tea (Camellia sinensis) is not oxidised – hence its fresh, grassy flavour. Black tea comes from the same plant but is oxidised and tastes stronger. TEABALLS Green Tea consists of green tea extract and acidity regulators (citric acid, sodium hydrogen carbonate). The pressed pieces dissolve directly in water – no tea bag, no strainer, no steeping time.

How Much Caffeine Does Green Tea Contain?

Green tea contains natural caffeine. According to the approximate values of the German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR), a 200 ml cup contains:

  • Green tea: approx. 30 mg
  • Black tea: approx. 45 mg
  • Filter coffee: approx. 90 mg

The actual content depends on the variety, the quantity and the preparation. For TEABALLS Green Tea, the shop does not state a caffeine content per pressed piece; it contains natural caffeine from the green tea extract. Varieties without tea, for example TEABALLS Hibiscus and TEABALLS Mint, are caffeine-free.

Green Tea Without Sugar – How It Works with TEABALLS

Green tea is often drunk with sugar or honey. That isn't necessary: TEABALLS Green Tea contains no added sugar and no sweetener. Nutrition information is given on the product pages (for Lemon Vitamin C, for example: 3 kJ / 1 kcal, 0 g sugars).

  1. Put three to five TEABALLS Green Tea into a glass (for about 3 dl)
  2. Add hot water at 60–80 °C (not boiling)
  3. Stir briefly – ready in seconds

Or cold: stir three to five TEABALLS into cold or iced water – this gives you a green iced tea without added sugar. Served with ice cubes, a slice of lemon and mint leaves, it becomes a refreshing drink for hot days.
