What does hibiscus tea taste like?
Fruity, slightly tart and reminiscent of berries or cranberries – and completely caffeine-free. That natural acidity is what makes it so refreshing: it needs no sugar to taste intense, which makes it the perfect alternative to soft drinks.
Preparing hibiscus tea – the classic way with flowers
For the classic method, pour 250 ml of hot water over 1–2 tsp of dried hibiscus flowers (also known as «karkade»), steep for 5–8 minutes, then strain. The longer it steeps, the deeper the colour and the sharper the acidity. It is quicker with TEABALLS: one tea ball, stir for 5 seconds, done – no sieve and no waiting.
Making hibiscus iced tea – without sugar
Hibiscus tea is especially popular as an iced tea – the intense red colour and fruity taste make it the perfect summer drink. With TEABALLS Hibiscus it takes seconds:
- Drop one TEABALL Hibiscus into a glass or water bottle
- Pour in cold water or sparkling water
- Stir briefly – done
Tip: add ice cubes and finish with a squeeze of lemon. Completely sugar-free, 0 calories – full flavour. You will find the detailed recipe with every variation in our article homemade hibiscus iced tea.
